Grabbed the wrong clip, but it demos it pretty well just vacuuming the floor. Nothing in the shop vac, all the sawdust in the five gallon bucket...

I called and talked to Ed today too, and placed an order for the largest one he makes...the 1800.

It will be shipped out one day next week, after Christmas. Just wanted to say thanks to Tim for bringing this up. GREAT thread and a well needed resource for the forum also. By the way, Ed said he had been bombarded with phone calls from forum members today, so business is good for him also. I am looking forward to installing the new vac system in the new shop.

Thanks Tim!

All right Ken, we want pics when you get yours up and running.

Ed has answered the phone and emails from me. I'm sure anyone with an existing dust collection system, could build one.

There you go Todd. That's about in anyone's price range that already have the double bag systems. My dinosaur is DOA as soon as I figure out how to get a system in place and operable. What no link?

Maybe you guys have posted about the effectiveness of cyclones, but this thread was just an open-eyed demonstration of it's potential. I do need a big one and I need it now.

I'd never heard of a Dust Deputy until two days ago, still didn't know what it was until now. I see the IMG tag includes %20 for a space so it may not work. Here is also a link to Oneida's Webpage on the DD.

It's what I have, and it is a killer little system.  My vacuum is sooooo much more efficient now.  It will actually collect dust all the time, instead of just when I start up after cleaning it out.  I use a 10 Gal Shop Vac Pro. (the stainless steel one).

Good grief...I just realized the ClearVue place is about a bit over an hour from me - AND - I'd have to drive by a Woodcraft on the way.

Hmmmm...might run down there one day and check'em out.

Bill

[QUOTE=ToddStock] As with full sized cyclones, the most hazardous dust is the 1-5 micron stuff that stays entrained in the airflow for removal by the filter. If the vacuum powering the cyclone does not have a decent filter, most of the really dangerous dust is coming right back into the shop. A CleanStream HEPA filter or equivalent will capture the bad stuff, and the mini cyclone will keep the larger stuff from packing the filter too quickly. [/QUOTE]

Thanks, Todd, for clarifying this. It was my understanding that a cyclone separates out the larger particles, while the smallest particles pass into the shop vac (or dust collector, as the case may be) where they are trapped - or not - by the filter. Some of the posts in this thread were making me question whether I had that wrong, so I appreciate you straightening this out.

It is probably safe to assume that the bags I've been using in my shop vac aren't doing a very good job of capturing the smallest particles, and that they are then passing through the regular pleated filter as well, and back into my air - in spite of the fact that the bags are billed as being good for fine dust (drywall dust, cement dust, ash, etc). Thanks to your tip, I'm going to get one of these CleanStream filters. I just googled them and found a lot of info about them, including the CleanStream web site. They sound like what we should all be using in our shop vacs. I'll keep using the bags in addition to the new HEPA filter and see how that works for me.

Another benefit of the CLEAR cyclones is that you can see when you have an obstruction in the airway. A couple of times I have sucked up some pieces of wood that got caught in the inlet of the cyclone tube and then debris started backing up. Had this been a steel unit I would not have seen this until the performance of the unit let me know there was a problem.... somewhere?

I know there is a good case about using a steel unit verses plastic but it sure is handy seeing what is going on inside of the cyclone.

I also noticed that the small Oneida that Bruce posted a picture of doesn't have an angled intake. I remember reading somewhere on Bill's site that the angled intake improves performance of the unit ???

Great news Dave. Please let us know how yours works. I don't want to be the only one excited about their products.

UPS delivered my Mini cv06 ClearVue Cyclone today.

I can't wait to get it put together and sucking sickness out of my shop, really.

I've had a persistent cough now for a good while, like a two or three pack a day smoker. I quit smoking in 1976 on June 26.

Bill did us all a favor sharing what he's learned. The cost of a cyclone (that works) is free compared to doctor bills. I have nothing against doctors, just doctors with my money.....

Thanks Tim for bringing this up, I'm already planning a big boy too!
